Skills Shortage in Australia

The October 13 edition of the Australian Financial Review warned of another serious skills shortage looming. Demands are being made by industry sectors to better target workers for the mining and energy sectors.

There are also calls for a more flexible immigration visa system

AFR magazine quoted United Group chief executive Richard Leupen as citing the financial crisis for the current issues with training in Australia and the 457 business visa.

There is currently a cronic shortage of chemical and petroleum engineers to service like Santos and Woodside Petroleum. The $43 billion Gorgan project in West Australia is expected to generate 10,000 direct and indirect jobs over the next three years.

Women in Mining - An untapped resource

Gone are the days that the mining game was exclusively for males.

'Big toys for big boys' may have been the mindset for many generations but more and more women are becoming an integral part of the mining industry.
